“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And no creature is hidden from His sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” Hebrews 4:12-13
Each of us will kneel before the LORD to “give account” for our faith and fidelity to His Word. We will be unable to hide in the shadows of our self-righteousness or the coattails of a blasphemous POTUS. We are all “naked and exposed” to God.
Thus, we must continually immerse ourselves in scripture as we endeavor to remain faithful to His Word and pursue what the Apostle Paul describes as “the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14). Such study is particularly relevant today as many who call themselves “Christians” have compromised their faith by enabling, endorsing and encouraging worldly behavior that is decidedly un-Christian.
A judicious examination of scripture illuminates God’s commands and wisdom:
“Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an ABOMINATION to the LORD.” Proverbs 16:5
“Be MERCIFUL, even as your Father is merciful.” Luke 6:36
“Seek FIRST the kingdom of God and his righteousness.” Matthew 6:33
“Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are DESTITUTE. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the POOR and NEEDY.” Proverbs 31:8-9
“You shall treat the STRANGER who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself” Leviticus 19:34
“Lying lips are an ABOMINATION to the LORD.” Proverbs 12:22
“You shall LOVE your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:39
Hopefully you get the picture. HUMILITY, MERCY, RIGHTEOUSNESS, GENEROSITY, COMPASSION, TRUTH and LOVE are how we are to satisfy God’s will – and to pursue the example set before us by His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.
The question we must all ask of ourselves is this: Am I following His example…or am I subverting God’s will by enabling pride, vengeance, cruelty, deceit and hate?
The phrase “abomination to the LORD,” in particular, resonates with me. Do you follow someone who is arrogant in heart…or a compulsive, unrepentant liar? If so, you follow an ABOMINATION. Do you endorse vengeance over love and mercy? Do you seek God first…or do you compromise His written Word for political expediency? Do you vicariously applaud legislation that takes SNAP benefits from the indigent or medical care from the vulnerable? Are YOU an abomination?
Remember, we are all naked and exposed to His eyes. He knows.
Donald Trump is naked and exposed. So are the false shepherds who profit from him (see Franklin Graham, Robert Jeffress, Paula Cain White and their ilk). All are guilty of diminishing God’s Word to satisfy their egos and their bank accounts. God, of course, has something to say about this:
“Whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:19
Don’t find yourself in the “least in the kingdom of heaven” category. Immerse yourself in scripture so that you may truly know God’s plan and purpose for His creation. Most importantly, obey. Follow the example of our Lord Jesus. Strive to be more like HIm.
